Dear learner, Welcome to the module of the course, ‘Agrochemicals and Their Application.’ It is concerned with the different agrochemical industries, the grades (ingredients) of chemicals and formulations, applications and factors limiting the use of agrochemicals; handling agrochemicals, precautions in handling agrochemicals, packaging, equipment and transportation, storage and storage environment, side effects of the use of agrochemicals, first aid procedures for agrochemicals poisoning; disposal of agrochemicals, reasons for accumulation of expired chemicals in stores under Ethiopia condition, health hazards of expired agrochemicals in stores, disposal of expired agrochemicals and costs involved; extension methods used in polarization agrochemicals for increasing crop yield, experiences, government workers, non-governmental stakeholders and private companies; laws governing the use and handling agrochemicals and licensing process in Ethiopia; job opportunities along the agrochemicals value chains, production, importation, packing, transportation and storage, trading, establishment of commercial firms or commercial companies for application.
Each unit has got its own sections, learning objectives, self-check exercise questions, a checklist, and a unit summary. Answers for the learning activity and self-check exercise questions are presented at the end of the module. The modules include different tables, pictures, and figures, which help readers during their study. You are advised to attempt the questions on your own before having a look at the answers in the answer key. Sometimes, you may be too tired while working during the whole day or due to different things. When you are studying at this time, you may find some parts of the module unclear; try to look at that part of the module with a free mind—early in the morning or as it is suitable for you.
