There is a famous quote that have been around for years which perhaps describes the power of photography and the art of expressing an idea through graphics. It reads; “a picture is worth a thousand words”. And we couldn’t agree more! For years, humans have been trying to describe their feelings through visual elements and have eventually left their astounding finger prints on casted stones, caves, ancient scrolls, monuments etc.
Thanks to the era of digitalization, we can now express, analyze and share our thoughts through highly effective platforms such as social networks, professional blogs and image based websites that are pivotal in shaping the present society; irrespective of boarder, nationality and race. We are now empowered and are able to share high quality photographs and footages in a matter of seconds across the globe. This important development has also ignited the art of expressing ideas in a limited count of words.
The new technology; however have threatened the art of literature. Readers are now attracted to visual materials and are less interested to wordy materials. News agencies, among others are now inclined to sharing information using graphics materials. They have developed techniques of writing pieces by harmonizing it with visual elements.
This module will introduce you to the basic concepts of photography, videography and techniques of story writing. It will guide you on how to integrate photography in your reports, external and internal publications and other documents. It will also walk you through the art of capturing and documenting occasions using moving images. Additionally, it has targeted to introduce you to key techniques on how to draft, develop and share human element articles.
