About Course
The courses are designed in such a way that outputs from one course become inputs for the next course. The first course, SEP I, provides the theoretical orientation for the other three courses, all of which are practical. After going through SEP I, you will be required to prepare an agricultural value chain-oriented extension needs assessment plan based on sound theory given in SEP I. You will be required to discuss your proposal with your supervisor before conducting the actual needs assessment. After your needs assessment, you will be required to prepare an extension research proposal that you will discuss with your employers and your academic supervisor for enrichment, comments, and approval. Your proposal will be assessed by the university and will carry a mark. Once your proposal has been approved, you will be expected to implement the proposal over a period of eight months in your work area under direct supervision of your employer and also your academic supervisor. This will be SEP-III. You will then be expected to prepare a report covering both your extension and research projects. Assessment for this course will include both your fieldwork and your final report. From your report, you will be required to prepare a seminar presentation that you will make at a seminar organized by the university. This will be SEP-IV.
Part I of the SEP is the coursework that prepares you for the practical parts of the SEPs. Part II will be your agricultural value chain-oriented extension needs assessment and extension and research proposals. Part III will be the implementation of your projects, data analysis, report writing, and seminar presentation.
